Vision and Mission
UW-CREATe faculty, staff, and students will work
in interdisciplinary teams on problems related to rehabilitation
engineering and assistive technology. The objectives of this center
will be:
-
Development of fundamental and applied engineering
knowledge in biomechanics, locomotion, power management, user-centered
design, and sensory aids, directed toward rehabilitation and
assistive devices for persons who are disabled
-
Graduate student education and research
-
Undergraduate education, research and service
in biomechanical systems design
-
Service for people with disabilities
- For example, wheelchair alteration (design and implementation)
for individuals needing assistance
- Prosthetic device alteration
- Design and development of devices for rehabilitation
- Design and development of assistive technologies that
allow those with disabilities to achieve greater independence.
In addition to these specific objectives, several
goals are seen as being crucial to the mission of the center. First,
the center will strive to serve as a valuable immediate asset providing
service to the people of the State of Wisconsin through a new type
of student-based organization. The second goal for the center is
to play a prominent regional, national, and international role in
undergraduate/graduate education and research in the area of Rehabilitation
Engineering and Assistive Technology. The center will strive to
be a community inclusive of all and an organization that provides
opportunities, as well as resources, for students, academic staff
and faculty.
